The Past 10 Years Have Been the Hottest on Record, and It’s Only Getting Hotter

by

That “global warming” thing? It’s for real. According to NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, “the scientific evidence that our world is warming is unmistakable.” That doesn’t sound good. More than 300 scientists from 48 countries brought their large brains together to contribute their wisdom to the 2009 State of the Climate report, which was released today.

The state of the climate — well, basically, it’s not so great. Or, in dweeby scientist speak, “A new set of climatic conditions are taking shape.”

These conditions are consistently warmer [check], and some areas are likely to see more extreme events like severe drought [check], torrential rain [check], and violent storms [check].

Also,

Each of the last three decades has been much warmer than the decade before. At the time, the 1980s was the hottest decade on record. In the 1990s, every year was warmer than the average of the previous decade. The 2000s were warmer still.

Meaning 2050 is going to be fun, what with everyone either complaining about the infernal heat or complaining that no one talks about anything besides the infernal heat.

Oh, but this diagram that we found on the Internet (they have everything there!) is helpful:

That’s right. If you’re hot, strip down to your undies, pass out on the floor in that corpse pose you learned in yoga, and put your feet in a fan. And keep some drinkables within reach. Problem solved.
