Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Mezcal con Pepino
The bar: La Biblioteca, 622 Third Avenue
The price: $13
The ingredients: Scorpion Silver Mezcal, fresh cucumber, serrano chilies, and fresh lime juice, shaken and served up in a cocktail glass rimmed with chili pequin-infused salt.
The buzz: It seems like drinks are becoming more and more like meals these days. This mouthful of smoke and pepper isn’t just some refreshing sipper you order on a hot day. It’s a drink you have to chew a little, and either drink fast to hurry past the heat of it or take in doses interspersed with something else to distract your tongue (the seafood ceviche will do). Try pacing yourself around the rim so that each taste of smoky mezcal, spicy serrano, and tart lime is accented by a few grains of hot chili salt. Note: This one’s a good intro to mezcal. Soon, you’ll be sipping smoked agave spirit with the best of them.
