Residents Justin Carter, Eamon Harkin, and Doug Singer reliably bring the best house and techno DJs to their inspiring, intimate, en plein air parties. Tonight they suspend their usual pattern and host Frank “Voodoo Funk” Gossner. His mixes, archived at voodoofunk.blogspot.com, are a veritable school of the sounds of West Africa, and he’s been responsible for releasing the Lagos Disco Inferno compilation and a Psychedelic Aliens retrospective. Between the South African house explosion and the increasing globalization of bass music, U.S. dance music is increasingly appreciative of Africa, but tonight we’ll be happy to hear Frank play it straight: high life, Afrobeat, mandingue, and Nigerian disco.
