Dir. Alfred Hitchcock (1954).
The 3-D craze was over by the time Hitchcock finished and the movie was released flat. Seen as it should have been, it’s a revelation. Others assaulted audiences with hurtling tomahawks or Jane Russell’s bosom, Hitch receded actors behind a clutter of monumentalized bric-a-brac—a canny restraint allowing the stereo image to assert its own uncanny characteristics.
