It may look like Pinkberry, but Fruizo is something altogether new. It’s a non-dairy frozen soft-serve fruit treat made by Simply Peeled, a new store opening at 1371 Third Avenue, at the corner of 78th Street. Made solely of filtered water, fruit, and organic cane sugar, it comes in three varieties — strawberry, mango, and banana — with the option of a couple dozen natural and organic toppings, from fresh fruit and granola to warm maple syrup and peanut butter sauce.
Fruizo contains no fat, sodium, cholesterol, gluten, or any of the eight major allergens. Like New York favorite Tasti D-Lite, it has less than 100 calories in a four-ounce serving (although Tasti D has at least 1.5 grams of fat per serving).
Founded by four friends from New York, with jobs ranging from finance to modeling, Simply Peeled is set up to look like a farm stand, with vintage wood fruit crates and scratch ‘n’ sniff wallpaper. The first location is opening today, with plans for national expansion in the pipeline.
