As we enter the 2010 U.S. Open, things don’t look so hot for America’s stars: Andy Roddick is just getting over mono, Venus Williams is playing with an injured knee, and Serena Williams is out entirely with a hurt foot. Returning to the Grand Slam tournament, which is now getting under way in Queens, are defending champions Juan Martín del Potro of Argentina and Belgian Kim Clijsters, who famously defeated Serena Williams in the semifinals after Williams threatened to shove the ball down the line judge’s throat (we really will miss her!). If you don’t want to shell out the big bucks for games at Arthur Ashe Stadium, a cheap way to see matches is to buy grounds-admissions passes, which gets you access to Louis Armstrong Stadium, the Grandstand, and field courts, based on availability from August 30 to September 6. See you on the 7 train!
