Fake Steven Slater Apologizes (Update!)

Remember Steven Slater’s impostor, the chubby blond man who fooled Page Six (who corrected today) and a whole boatload of partying gay guys? He’s apologized for his actions! We obtained an email from “I’m-Not-Slater” to Daniel Nardicio, the Playgirl VP whose birthday he showed up at.

Daniel,

I just wanted to send you a quick note and say I am truly sorry for any embarrassment I may have caused you at your birthday party on the Sea Tea boat.

The entire Slater thing has been a bit crazy …
On Friday people started asking me “is that you?” My office received numerous calls. Over lunch I was accosted by a fan of Slater’s who was insistent on getting an autograph. He became verbally abusive because he did not believe I was not Slater. Later, on my way home I was stopped twice again.

By Sunday evening I had been asked and replied “No, I am not Slater” to over a dozen people, some on Sea Tea even asked to see my ID because they thought I was snubbing them! I got tired of arguing (yes, you are – no, I am not – yes you are …) so I just started to say: “I cant discuss it”. With this reply people seemed to drop the issue. As the questions continued, at some point I started to jokingly reply “Fly Delta”, a humorous alternative to giving long winded denials every 15 min. I should have nipped it in the bud but failed to do so and the rumors got out of control. Had I been at a bar I would have left before any of this happened.

One internet post said I scammed my way into the party and got free drinks – this is not true. I purchased the ticket from Sea Tea and to the best of my knowledge I did not recieve any drinks paid for by anybody that was under the impression that I was Slater.

For the record I think Slater is a hero, and I never set out to impersonate him – I just happen to look the way I do!

Again I apologize for any hurt I may have caused you and hope you can forgive me.

We tried to contact Not-Slater, but haven’t received a response. So we still don’t who the guy actually is (the email address didn’t give any clues).

Not-Slater did respond to Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor, however. He told her basically everything he told Nardicio above. O’Connor contacted Nardicio, who admitted that he made up the part about Not-Slater taking vodka (you lied to us, Daniel!); he was trying to plug Belvedere, who sponsored the party. And the part about Not-Slater weaseling his way onto the guest list might not be true, either. The whole thing is looking like just a fake mess of fake fakery.

So! On to the next fameball?
