A recent daytime television slog included Rachael Ray sitting on stools with a radiant Pat Benatar. Benatar could have appeared on her legacy singles alone; “Heartbreaker,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” and “Love Is a Battlefield” all hit the Top 30. Benatar’s songs and her empowerment touched the lives of a generation, so that her current tour is a combination of hits and book-hawking is only the latest evolution in a career that’s always attempted a strong message while keeping pop-rock moments rolling. And what’s more empowering than shoulder-dancing in unison to the strident tones of “Love Is a Battlefield”?
