Today on Drudge Report, Matt Drudge notes in big, bold, capital letters: “SHOCK POLL: 1 OUT 4 THINK OBAMA MUSLIM.”
This can’t be true, can it?
The article it links to, from Time, regarding the results of a poll taken to gauge opinion about the supposed “Ground Zero Mosque”:
The survey also revealed that many Americans harbor lingering animosity toward Muslims. Twenty-eight percent of voters do not believe Muslims should be eligible to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Nearly one-third of the country thinks adherents of Islam should be barred from running for President — a slightly higher percentage than the 24% who mistakenly believe the current occupant of the Oval Office is himself a Muslim. In all, just 47% of respondents believe Obama is a Christian; 24% declined to respond to the question or said they were unsure, and 5% believe he is neither Christian nor Muslim.
Cut to 2035. Children, sitting in a classroom. A history teacher passes out a standardized test. On it is the question:
24. WAS PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
(A) A JEW.
(B) A RAPPER.
(C) AN AFRICAN.
(D) A MUSLIM.
OR (E) NONE OF THE ABOVE.
The teacher sighs, because he knows at least one kid in that class will get the question wrong. Why the teacher and everyone else should really sigh? Because the question even matters at all. Unfortunately….
While more Americans are open to the idea of having a mosque built in their neighborhood rather than near Ground Zero, it’s still not an overwhelming majority; 55% of respondents say they would favor the construction of an Islamic community center and mosque two blocks from their home, and an equal number say they believe most Muslims are “patriotic Americans.”
It does, because they think Muslims are basically terrorists, and also, because they never took or forgot everything they learned in history class about the various periods in history one might remember Christians killing Jews, Muslims, and “Witches,” which goes without mentioning the Muslim-killing Jews and the Muslim-killing Christians. Which gives me an idea: We should try to get a bunch of witches to open up a food co-op down there while we’re at it. Maybe we can take some heat off the Muslims.
No, but really, if that other 45 percent wants to find people who are not “Patriotic Americans,” they should look at people disagreeing with them, who’re ashamed of just how ignorant our “fellow Americans” actually are. One nation, very, very, very divided. Who to blame?
