Sportswriter and noted asshole Jay Mariotti has been arrested for domestic assault. The LAPD is saying he and his girlfriend left a club arguing, and Mariotti “pushed and shoved her, and also left marks on her arm.” A little hypocritical, don’t you think, coming from a dude who called for stricter MLB punishments for violent baseball players.
Mariotti was released on a $50,000 bail today.
A former sportswriter for the Chicago Sun-Times, he left the paper in 2008 to write for FanHouse, the AOL sports blog. He’s also a panelist on ESPN’s “Around the Horn” show, but who knows how long he’ll keep either of those gigs. Considering the fact that he’s moved on to hitting women.
FanHouse released a careful statement on their site around 5 p.m. Editor in Chief Scott Ridge said, “We are in the process of gathering the facts, and we have no further comment at this time.”
