Can fusion be thoughtful and florid at the same time, yet also tumultuous and focused? The guitarist has a key for unlocking such conundrums, and on the recent Krantz, Carlock, LeFebvre, he jiggles it gently and opens the door to all sorts of groovadelic goodness. Delivering more than mere freak-outs, he gives nuance its day in the sun, and lets his very imposing rhythm section do lots of the heavy lifting. Virtuoso bassist John Pattitucci is the guest for this club hit, and syncopation should be front and center.
