James Murphy Walking Back The No-More-LCD-Soundsystem-Albums Threat One Step At A Time

So James Murphy has frequently intimated that this year’s excellent This Is Happening would be the last LCD record, but this looks more and more to be Jay-Z style retirement: Having recently hinted at the potentially rejuvenating powers of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs, Murphy is now flat-out telling people another LCD album is certainly possible, just long as it’s not, you know, “professional.” Per The Quietus:

When asked if the band would consider making another LP despite comments he’d made in the last several months about This Is Happening feeling “like it should be the last one”, he said: “Yeah, I’ll still do music. We might even make an album. I’m just getting off of the professional album making train.

“I’m not counting anything out other than touring professionally.”

Well there you go: Look for an appallingly half-assed new album, This Initially Wasn’t Happening, in spring 2012. Hopefully James writes his very own “Beach Chair.”
