In early June, word surfaced that Devi co-chef-and-owner Hemant Mathur would be leaving to open his own place, called Tulsi. At the time, the restaurant — whose name means “basil” in Hindi — was shooting for a September opening. As is so often the case, that prediction proved inaccurate, but not by much: According to the restaurant’s representative, it’s now slated to open in October.
Mathur told us that his menu at Tulsi would be “all my creation, that’s going further, using new ingredients a little bit,” and promised that he would be using new meats, among other ingredients. Below are some of the dishes he’ll be serving when Tulsi opens at 211 East 46th Street:
