Self-proclaimed “suicide rock” ensemble Katatonia only know three major chords and only play two of them. With roots in depressive, growly doom metal–a style they’ve long abandoned, but usually revisit for at least a song at concerts–the Swedish band plays expansive Pink Floyd-ish hard rock with a serious dark side. Supporting them tonight are local progressive extreme metallers Gwynbleidd, Finnish melodic black-metal ensemble Swallowed by the Sun, and Israeli folk-metal crew Orphaned Land. One of these bands is bound to have some optimism… somewhere.
