The large ensemble’s swells provide a rich buffer for the guitarist’s solos, and the chosen terrain is both familiar and novel. Our Secret World finds the leaders of the Portuguese big band arranging a scad of Rosenwinkel nuggets, and their designs revitalize the tunes and inspire the composer. “Turns” tells the story: a wildly elaborate artifice housing zinger after zinger after zinger. I bet it’s one of those gigs that find its participants growing more authoritative as each night passes.
