A User’s Guide to Fashion’s Night Out


Well, it’s that time of year again: Friday’s Fashion’s Night Out brings a whole slew of free ways for you to stalk your favorite celebs, stare at pretty things you will pretend to consider to buy, and get some swag and music appreciation in while you’re at it. There’s a whole lot to sift through, so here’s our guide to help you through it.

Category: Watching Celebrities Do Things
Highlights: As if “Mary Kate and Ashley” isn’t enough to convince you. The twins host a celeb-filled karaoke contest that’s bound to be incredibly awkward, and therefore incredibly amusing. Or you can bring a friend to play doubles in ping-pong against design duos Rag & Bone, Shipley & Halmos, and Rogan.

Event: Helmut Lang Block Party

Highlights: Hip partyographer of yesteryear Cobrasnake hosts this bash with plenty of signature cocktails from Death & Co. Darling DJ duo (and Paper Mag‘s “DJ of the Year” victors) Harley Viera-Newton and Cassie Coane provide the soundtrack. Note: There will be games.

Highlights: Well, we just die for Rachel Zoe, and the flamboyantly dramatic stylist hosts the website’s first-ever pop-up store tonight and will be scurrying about styling you, too! The shopping will be great, we’re sure, but the real point here is to get Rachel to tell you how major you look. OMG, I die.

Highlights: Ace Hotel turns into a “French-Style Flea Market” with booths by Alexander Wang, Band of Outsiders, Joseph Altuzarra, Patrik Ervell, and Rodarte. A few will be sporting their own exclusive FNO shirts and designer cupcakes, too.

Highlights: The night after the grand reopening of Don Hills (under the direction of Paul Sevigny), the magazine hosts a night of music and dancing. The big surprise guest is the real reason we’d go — rumor has it that it’s this month’s cover star, Britney Spears. (!!!)

Highlights: Apparently fashion and karaoke go hand-in-hand this FNO. Bergdorf’s participants include Nicole Richie, Cynthia Rowley, Eugenia Kim, and Naeem Khan. Other ludicrous celeb-filled activities include a doggie-runway show (sorry, puppies!) and meet-and-greets with Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, and Mary J Blige.
