Over the past decade, Caribou’s Dan Snaith has proven himself able to transcend the strictures of IDM, wandering through sunny ’60s psychedelic pop and krautrock pulsations. And at last year’s ATP Festival, he even folded in an all-star ensemble for a fiery free-jazz freakout. With this year’s sumptuous Swim, he’s taken all those strains and smartly tethered them back to dance music. Now, if he would only lose the soggy vocals and get someone else to sing his songs for him. Openers Emeralds also released a stellar album this year, the monstrous analog noise beauty Does It Look Like I’m Here?, to great fanfare. With ARP.
