Christian Fennesz just barely herds experimental electronics into the shape of proper records, but they are so enchanting, it’s surprising to learn that he identifies himself as a guitarist. On Black Sea, his gorgeously demure latest album, those strings do a much better job than usual at keeping up with the sizzling circuits and patches, sometimes quite nearly qualifying as riffs. It makes for an extremely rewarding listen, as long as you have the time–the album is still virtually impenetrable with anything less than a three hour meditative binge. Fingers crossed for a mammoth encore tonight. With the American Dollar and Bell.
