Best Coast love the Beach Boys, and so must all Californians love them, but the coed duo’s pop breadth extends far beyond the Sunflower sweethearts. Quite a bit of Vivian Girls’ heavily distorted, chiming harmonies seeped into this year’s Crazy for You, the succinctly innocent subject matter suggested classic pop in vein of the Everly Brothers and the Ronettes (opener “Boyfriend” is a prime example), and the sweet solos of classic surf pop cued back to Jan & Dean and Santo & Johnny (insert closer “When I’m With You”).
