Out in San Francisco, CHOW has just published the results of its second annual CHOW 13 Awards, designed to honor “the people pushing the food world in new and adventurous directions.” While the list skews slightly toward the West Coast, it includes a few easterly types, including the Meat Hook’s Tom Mylan (“for jump-starting the Brooklyn DIY movement”), the illustrious Ruth Bourdain, Foursquare’s Dennis Crowley, and Mateo and Andy Kehler, the brothers behind Vermont’s Jasper Hill Farm. Also, although he’s a California winemaker, honoree Abe Schoener is one of the founding fathers of our Red Hook winery.
As illuminating as the list itself? The supposed congratulatory wishes now piling up on Bourdain’s Twitter feed.
