Tallulah Bankhead, Anne Bancroft, Elizabeth Taylor, Stockard Channing—these names to conjure with have all starred as Regina, the vulpine matriarch of Lillian Hellman’s caustic family drama The Little Foxes. And now they’ll admit another to their ranks: Downtown doyenne Elizabeth Marvel, who stars in Ivo van Hove’s revival. Van Hove is known for scraping away bourgeois exteriors to lay bare the psychosexual terrors just beneath. As the published script includes theft, manipulation, violent death, and more than a hint of incest, the director, the leading lady, and the supporting cast (which also includes Thomas Jay Ryan, Greig Sargeant, and Christopher Evan Welch) won’t have to scrape very far.
