The Wave’s head honcho Zach Rogue is a pretty smart dude. He had a handle on catchy singer/songwriter workmanship but, in order to stand apart from numerous folk-leaning indie-rockers, he wisely gussies up those acoustic guitars with driving drums, poppy-spacey keyboards, colorful percussion, and silky vocal harmonies. Midlake love them some classic-rock and folk (past albums flirted with Fleetwood Mac and Steeleye Span). Their gorgeous, velvety male vocals and breezily multi-layered, multi-instrumental tunes are deep waters.
