The drink: The Americano Bianco
The bar: The Lambs Club, 132 West 44th Street
The price: $18
The ingredients: Gin, Campari, bianco vermouth, stirred and topped with soda in a highball.
The buzz: Yes, you read it right: $18 a drink. It’s probably the most you’re likely to pay for a Sasha Petraske-designed cocktail in this town. And, yes, considering this one is topped with soda, it probably offers the least bang for your buck. But if you’re looking to get wasted at these prices, you’re going to spend a fortune anyway. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a fizzy, lightly bitter pre-dinner aperitivo, the Americano Bianco is right up your alley. It’s a Campari and soda with a little more depth and roundness from the vermouth and extra kick from the gin. Or, depending how you look at it, a Negroni tamed with dry vermouth and softened with soda. Either way, it’s a pleasant sipper, something your Aunt Lily might enjoy before switching to wine with dinner.
