Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: The Melee Cocktail
The bar: Louis 649, 649 East 9th Street
The price: $12
The ingredients: Amaro Meletti, gin, fino sherry, and Cherry Heering, stirred and served over ice in a rocks glass, with a lemon peel garnish.
The buzz: When Louis reopens this Friday (softly) after a paint job (and more officially next Friday), there will be a few new items on the menu, but luckily you’ll still be able to get this drink from the ‘Amaro’ section of the cocktail list. Made with Meletti, a floral amaro that you don’t find on just any back bar in the city, its silky texture betrays all the smooth operators in the glass: dry fino sherry, sweet Cherry Heering, and herbaceous amaro enhanced by herbal, citrusy gin. It’s the ideal drink to help you transition from summer (yay, gin) to fall (mmm… sherry). We wore leather boots, no sleeves, and a scarf as we sipped.
