In the increasingly ugly race for Governor of New York, the biggest political issue has become illicit sex. First it was the disturbing, head-on confrontation of Tea Partier Carl Paladino’s affair, by his wife nonetheless, in both the New York Post and New York Times. Then it was Paladino’s literal, physical confrontation with a reporter. There, the unhinged Paladino went again to his secret weapon of sorts — the claim that his opponent Andrew Cuomo had some lovers of his own. To which Cuomo says something along the lines of, Whoa dude, I have young children — check yourself!
For his part, Paladino seems off the deep end:
When asked by Politico.com if he knew the names of the alleged lovers, he responded, “Three of the four.”
But the next day, he told a different story to his hometown newspaper, the Buffalo News. He admitted he had no proof and claimed he only wanted Cuomo to be asked the same personal questions he’s dealt with since admitting he fathered an out-of-wedlock child.
However, Paladino appeared to again return to his earlier charges on Fox News Channel yesterday, as he was pressed on his initial claim to have proof of infidelities.
During his latest 180, Paladino claims he’s waiting for “the appropriate time” to unleash “whatever we have in our, in our box.” Whether the box is literal or figurative is not the biggest mystery here.
Today in the Post, though, Cuomo seems to be losing patience for the below the belt shots, they having now gotten back to his daughters, 14-year-old twins and a 12-year-old.
“My children read the newspapers, and when I told about the negativity and the disgust, I get it first-hand from my own kids.
“It’s not easy for them to go through this and experience this, and it’s not supposed to be this way. It doesn’t have to be this way.”
Himself an angry father — yelling at the aforementioned Post reporter, “I want to know why you sent your goons after my daughter.” — Paladino might want to make with that proof, lest this whole thing turn really Scorcese. Hell hath no fury like a father with daughters.
