After spending the past 12 years on the southwest corner of Ninth Avenue and West 20th Street, La Bergamote has relocated across the street to the intersection’s northwest corner. Last night, the patisserie’s new digs were closed but humming with activity, and a sign on the windows informed passersby that the neighborhood institution would reopen today at 8 a.m. Gone is the rust-colored awning and gold script that defined the patisserie’s old home, swapped for a sleek metallic exterior that is, at least at present, awning-less. But more important, the interior boasts a collection of capacious display cases, waiting to be filled with La Bergamote’s storied croissants, gateaux, and mille-feuille.
