From Bergen Street to the Bowery, New York is looking a lot more like New Caanan every day. The newest vision of haute WASP splendor comes courtesy of the Little Cupcake Bakeshop, which will soon open in the former Kitchen Club space at 30 Prince Street. Its facade is almost an exact replica of Peels, more evocative of Talbots outlets and Choate reunions than anything remotely organic to the city. And it will soon find itself in aesthetically sympathetic company: Billy’s is also slated to open its third, similarly quaint location a mere two blocks away at 268 Elizabeth Street. All of which confirms our growing suspicion that homogeneity does indeed have a flavor: it tastes a lot like vanilla buttercream and smells like Ralph Lauren Polo Sport.
