The NYPD and FAA started getting calls early Wednesday afternoon about “a silvery object hovering high over Chelsea,” the Daily News reports. The mothership coming in to land? Or…just balloons? Also, what’s up with weird things (unidentified flying objects, C4 explosives) turning up all over New York City these days?
As of this post, law enforcement hadn’t confirmed what the item was, nor did they seem much to care (cops told us, “No one told us that they’d be flying anything over there, and what you know is what we know.”) Enigmatic! Clearly it was not a celebrity, whom we would have studiously ignored.
The New York Post has this intriguing quote from witness Tim Powell, who must watch the SyFy channel:
“It looked like a jellyfish made of lights that just hovered in the sky like it wanted to be seen,” he said. “I was half expecting the aliens to beam down and introduce themselves.”
Meanwhile, everyone’s all a-Twit about it, with some messages referring to a book that predicted aliens would attempt to contact the earth on this very day. Anyone in Chicago see anything interesting? How about you, L.A.?
Personally, we think this is kinda like the great molasses smell mystery of 2005. No one may ever know the truth for absolutely sure. And, yes, of course, we’ll take you to our leader.
