What to Drink at Xiao Ye: The Twinkie

by

Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.

The drink: The Twinkie

The bar: Xiao Ye, 198B Orchard Street

The price: $8

The ingredients: Green tea, fresh lemon juice, honey, Citron Sochu, served over ice in a tall glass.

The buzz: There’s been a lot of talk about Eddie Huang lo these many weeks and, in turn, a lot of talk back from the Taiwanese-American chef. Whether you take the position of the clown or father figure, a homie needs to drink something with all the rudely named food up in that piece. While some of the cocktails take the same kind of shock-value approach as the dishes (in name only), you might want to give your sensibilities — if not your senses — a break and just sip a nice, long, lemon-honey iced tea kicked up with sweet, yeasty sochu. It’s not cloying, nor tart, nor strong, nor weak. It’s a Goldilocks drink: just nice.
