Attorney General Eric Holder to California Hippies: Weed Bill is a No-Go

Obama enforcer Attorney General Eric Holder says he doesn’t care how Californians vote when it comes to November’s Proposition 19, which stands to legalize marijuana in the state, because he’s still going to arrest them. Ex-officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration wrote to Holder to express their worries about the upcoming vote and received a promise in response that no matter how “chill” California’s voters feel a few weeks, they’ll still be in trouble if they choose to use marijuana as recreation. The Obama administration, Holder wrote, “strongly opposes” Proposition 19.

Despite the administration’s relative support for medical marijuana — or at least their promise not to shut down dispensaries — decriminalization is where they’re drawing the line for now. Via the New York Daily News:

“Accordingly, we will vigorously enforce the (Controlled Substances Act) against those individuals and organizations that possess, manufacture or distribute marijuana for recreational use, even if such activities are permitted under state law,” [Holder] said.

But despite the government threat, it may not even come to that: “According to a recent poll, California voters were more likely to vote against the measure 53% to 43%.” In other words, first put down the pipe long enough to get to the polls, and then we’ll worry about The Man later.
