New York is filthy with cheap-as-dirt, duck-in/duck-out nail places, and at many of them you get exactly what you pay for: a dip in some tepid water, a trim, and a cursory cuticle push or two, followed by a new coat of polish and a quick-dry. The Galleria Nail Salon is different, not because it’s ever-so-slightly more pricey than your run-of-the-mill shop (it is), but, more important, because it’s so very worth it. When you enter, you’re greeted like a regular, even if it’s your first visit. Jinhee, the owner, who makes her own scrubs from scratch, even loaned us a skirt when we wore skinny jeans to a pedicure. And they’re equally diligent and conscientious with your nails. Be forewarned: What might take 30 minutes at another salon takes an hour here, but the results last—a dark manicure went chipless for almost three weeks instead of the average three to five days. Galleria also features salon services like waxing, facials, and massages. And, should you happen to want to share the experience with your boyfriend, they’re guy-friendly.
