Dir. Yasujiro Ozu (1961).
Dealing with the last days of a patriarch enjoying a brief second childhood, much to his grown children’s disapproval, Yasujiro Ozu’s penultimate movie is at once rambunctious and elegiac. None of Ozu’s late films have quite this deftly offbeat mix of farce, melancholy, and stoical acceptance.
Fridays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Oct. 29. Continues through Oct. 31, 2010
