Eggs Benedict, waffles, bacon . . . coffins? No, we didn’t mean to say coffee. Leave the old Sunday-morning routine behind and order up the Phantasmagorey Halloween Brunch Spectacular, a ghoulish smorgasbord of bawdy tricks and tasty treats only a devoted shopper of Gothic Renaissance could love. Presented by Dances of Vice, a self-proclaimed “Rococo, Victorian, Jazz Age, & New Romantic” entertainment group that combines art, music, and dance, the wicked lineup includes the hot jazz of Brian Carpenter’s Ghost Train Orchestra, the tapping skills of Gin Minsky, and aerial burlesque by Veruca Honeyscotch, among others. Additionally, a fashion show inspired by the macabre works of writer and illustrator Edward Gorey, the spectacle’s namesake, will be showcased by Pureville. Looking for an even darker event? Later that night, the Highline Ballroom plays host to “Hussies From Hell”: a burlesque, gogo, and drag extravaganza that will excite and unleash your inner demon.
