Dir. Akira Kurosawa (1957).
Kurosawa’s samurai Macbeth is compactly ferocious and adroitly stylized—a kind of action No drama. The graphic design is splendid and Toshiro Mifune gives one of his most physical performances as the ambitious underling who murders his lord. Although frequently copied, the hail of arrows climax has never been topped.
