The great, tormented Indian filmmaker Ritwick Ghatak returned to his Bangladesh home to make this raw, borderline–incoherent tale of a kidnapped bride, a dying river and a ruined culture. The movie might have been ripped from Ghatak’s insides; his pain is everywhere apparent.
