Before her Grammy-winning 1989 debut and the reedy mysticism of “Diamond in the Rough,” before 1997 and “Sunny Came Home,” Shawn Colvin was playing shows and slinging tapes. So while Live, her most recent record, settles in with a bit more polish, it’s not without the steely beauty she’s honed over 20 years of grabbing her guitar and singing some songs. Colvin could front a full band but she doesn’t on Live, and she won’t during this three-night stand at City Winery. For all the powerful moments on her recordings, Colvin’s at her most revelatory with just her voice and a guitar. And hey, if you ask nicely, maybe she’ll still sell you one of those tapes. She’s joined by California-based Lauren Shera, whose quietly impressive Once I Was a Bird was released in 2009.
