While guzzling our way through a couple of egg creams last week, we found ourselves thinking of how easy it would be to make one at home, thanks to our trusty Sodastream seltzer maker. And then we thought of the jug of maple syrup sitting next to our Sodastream. We knew what we had to do.
Making a maple egg cream — or really, any egg cream — is about as easy as pulling on a pair of pants. Easier, really, since there are no colors to coordinate.
To make a 12-ounce maple egg cream, you just need the following:
— Whole, soy, almond, or rice milk
— Seltzer or club soda
— 2 1/2 tablespoons of the best maple syrup you can afford
Measure the maple syrup into the bottom of a standard drinking glass (we used a 12-ounce). Pour about 3/4 to one cup of milk into the glass, depending on how milky you want the finished drink to be. Pour the seltzer into the glass until it fizzes to the top. Stir, sip, and savor.
