Philly-based power-poppers Free Energy are set to open for Weezer next month over two nights at Roseland, which may well boost their stock provided the right music supervisors show up: “Free Energy,” the best song from their James Murphy–produced debut, was made for a movie scene like that one in Clueless where “All the Young Dudes” scores the march of the stoners. For now, you can still catch them in a room small enough to make their super-’70s pastiche feel bigger than that. With Ohio’s similarly inclined (but less tunefully endowed) Foxy Shazam.
