Dir. Raul Ruiz (1985).
Raul Ruiz’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson features an international cast enigmatically cavorting amid the requisite panoply of outrageous angles and garishly colored. It’s alternately irritating and inspired, tedious and droll, and surprisingly faithful to its source—particularly in so far as the novel is a nightmarishly sordid, amoral tale of treachery and greed.
