This year’s edition of Best Music Writing, guest-edited by Ann Powers, is so loaded with rock-crit superstars that it’ll take two nights of readings to honor them all: The fun begins tonight at Housing Works in SoHo and features Sasha Frere-Jones, Alex Ross, Robert Christgau, Starrene Rhett, Lola Ogunnaike, Jody Rosen, and, as it happens, Raquel Cepeda and Greg Tate, both being honored for pieces they wrote for the Voice. (Raquel on schoolchildren grappling with Rihanna/Chris Brown, Greg on the death of Michael Jackson.) Please join us tonight in giving them a hand. The festivities then move to Brooklyn for tomorrow’s night’s fete, which promises to be a little more, uh, profane:
That would be due to this guy: Tuesday’s Southpaw lineup includes Jon Carmanica, Maura Johnston, Nitsuh Abebe, Jason Fine, Evie Nagy, Tavia Nyong’o, and, yes, Christopher R. Weingarten. Bring a dog in an amusing outfit and get in free.*
*Both events are free to the public, your lack of a dog in an amusing outfit notwithstanding.
