Ingredients: a cup of competition, a dash of bickering, and a whole lot of good food. Mix all three in a large room full of locally acclaimed chefs and eager audience members. Serves many hungry New Yorkers. This recipe for holiday cheer (because what’s the holiday season without a little competition?) is available at not one but two locations today. The Holiday Food Experiment is going down at the Bell House at 4 p.m., where cook-off pros Theo Peck and Nick Suarez present a competition in which top chefs conjure up their favorite holiday-inspired fare. And in the spirit of giving, part of the proceeds from ticket sales support ovarian cancer research. The second annual International Latke Festival, also starting at 4 p.m., takes place at City Winery and features a competition between chefs to create a world-class, completely unique latke. Choosing between two delicious throw-downs? You can’t go wrong. The Holiday Food Experiment at 4, the Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn, $20; 2nd Annual International Latke Festival presented by Great Performances at 4, City Winery, 155 Varick Street,, $33

Sun., Dec. 5, 4 p.m., 2010
