Issue Project Room’s swinging series devoted to Darmstadt School icons continues with early (and seldom-heard) electronic and improvisational works by its most influential mad scientist, whose sonic experimentation can be heard in the music of everyone from the Beatles and Animal Collective to Stock, Hausen & Walkman. This program includes a four-channel version of the eccentric polygamist’s best-known electronic work, Gesang der Jünglinge (1955-56); Kontakte (1958-60), for percussion and electronics; and Mikrophonie(1964-65), performed by the Iktus Percussion Quartet and a pair of knob twirlers. A filmed Stockhausen lecture on electronic music kicks off the show.
