Today the Washington Post recounts Reynaldo Decerega‘s fateful journey from his high school’s most mature and most popular to “Nice Guy Rey” in college to the director of programs for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to THAT GUY WHO BUSTED OBAMA’S LIP, a/k/a, HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED, a/k/a, “The Elbow.”
How will Decerega live down the shame of being the one who accidentally wounded the POTUS, leading to 12 stitches in the presidential lip, during the now-going-down-in-history pickup game at Fort McNair on Friday?
Well, first, he had to issue a statement:
“I learned today the president is both a tough competitor and a good sport,” Decerega said in a White House-sanctioned statement Friday night. “I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. I’m sure he’ll be back out on the court again soon.”
Decerega also apologized twice, though not in his formal statement. And, he received four stitches in his elbow, according to a spokesman for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Decerega has said he’ll comment further regarding this rather awkward mishap on Monday. We wait with anticipation.
But…was Obama just asking for it in the first place? The Washington Post spoke to someone eager to tell all about his trash-talking b-ball ways, including “pointing at the presidential seal at half court and exclaiming, ‘Whose court is this?'” (Ooh, snap!) and calling himself “pretty good.”
Just for the record, we hereby decline future offers to play basketball with anyone.
