Good news for Brooklynites who don’t feel like schlepping to Red Hook’s supersized Fairway: After an extended residence in limbo, the Whole Foods Gowanus has returned, and this time it looks like the store will actually rise at 3rd Street and Third Avenue.
Per a letter sent from a Whole Foods exec to the local community board and posted on Brownstoner, the store will be 52,000 square feet (about 25 percent smaller than the originally proposed size) and will have a 20,000-square-foot rooftop greenhouse and a 40-foot esplanade “for our neighbors to enjoy.” The parking lot will feature recharging stations for electric cars and bike parking.
No word of when construction on the store will actually be completed, but it should give area landlords plenty of time to raise their rents accordingly.
