At last, the Purple One’s modest little hootenanny has washed ashore. The Welcome 2 America tour, promised vaguely as a revolving canival of r&b artists with Prince donning his Master of Ceremonies crown, is still swathed in mystery, much like the actual frame of Prince, but we do know that his carnival will welcome Janelle Monáe, Sheila E., Maceo Parker, Cassandra Wilson, and many more people who may or may not include Sinbad (but we thought he changed his name to a crossed-out dollar sign awhile ago). It’s thrilling to think of Prince sitting in with his neighbors and progenies—until the Lovesexxy lothario embarks on a solo tour, this may be the most electricity we’ll get from him around here. Hope for amazing alchemy. Also on December 18 and 29 and January 18 at Madison Square Garden.
