The drink: Joe Ray

The ingredients: Gin, Cointreau, vermouth, and bitters, served up.
The buzz: I met Joe Ray in Mexico. An award-winning journalist and skilled photographer, he comes off as quiet, prim, and thoughtful. He wasn’t exactly the inspiration for the drink that borrows his name at Fort Defiance. Instead, the Journalist Cocktail was renamed after him, a sort of tribute between friends (he’s chummy with owner and fellow writer St. John Frizell). So, how does a journalist drink a Journalist? I can’t speak for Joe Ray, but I would say, with restraint. It goes down terribly easy and is rather wallet-friendly in this era of eroding per-word rates.
