Though she had her moments over the decades she spent as a White House reporter, Helen Thomas, 90, fell quite far earlier this year when she was captured on camera explaining why the Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine.” People don’t like words like that, so she lost her job and no one has really heard from her since. Until now, as more unsavory comments about the evil Jews are surfacing from a conference on Thursday. Whereas the Antisemitism was debatable in the first instance, this time she blames “Zionists” for much more and sounds a bit batty.
Thomas was clear she did not regret her earlier comments and decided to expound a bit on her ideas:
“Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists. No question, in my opinion,” she said. “They put their money where their mouth is. … We’re being pushed into a wrong direction in every way.”
Oops! That’s not allowed.
The ADL’s own resident crazy old person, Abraham H. Foxman, was not pleased, writing in a statement that “[h]er suggestion that Zionists control government, finance and Hollywood is nothing less than classic, garden-variety anti-Semitism.”
As a result, Wayne State University has done away with the Helen Thomas Spirit of Diversity Award named in her honor.
Does this officially erase her years of service as a laudable journalist? One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be awkward when she dies.
