Each participant is well aware of a jazz trio’s dynamic needs, and each has focus when it comes to revealing the splendor of rhythmic variation. The action at the center of this debut trio date should be in perpetual flux. Pianist Iyer brings a nuanced flow to his most jittery lines, bassist Grenadier regularly finds lyricism within darting thrusts, and the drummer-leader applies his Cuban groove sense in a wealth of ways. Can’t wait to see what happens.
