Kettlebells are the new exercise rage. Russian in origin, they look like metal balls with handles on them, starting at four pounds and going up to 175—though we can’t imagine swinging that around! The kettlebells are designed so that the center of mass is beyond the handle, lending them to swinging exercises that improve fitness, flexibility, and cardiovascular strength. Movements include such action names as “the swing” and “the clean and jerk,” and when you go through a session, you know you did some good. A great way to see if kettlebells are for you is Kettlebell Boot Camp at Cindy Lai Fitness. Classes are designed for all levels of proficiency, beginners are welcome, and the cost is only $20 a class.
