The Centennial State has brought us majestic mountains, the bison burger, Hunter S. Thompson, and the healthiest people in the nation. Throw in some excellent local drafts and there’s no reason not to celebrate Colorado (a/k/a the heart of the west). Show your love at the inaugural edition of Bell House’s monthly State Fair Series, with January featuring all manner of Colorado cuisine and culture. Natives DJ JR Spiegel and DJ Tim Cook will spin the vinyl while guests enjoy specialty beer imported from Colorado breweries. Displaced aficionados of the state can enter their favorite colorful Colorado-inspired dish (the Mexican hamburger is already up for consideration) in the cook-off for a chance to win the $100 grand prize, or fish out the glasses and acoustic guitar for the John Denver look-alike contest. For once, crooning “Jet Plane” in a crowded room is encouraged. At 3, the Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn, 718-643-6510, thebellhouseny.com.
